Sprout growing kit
For Real Food focused on making an impact on our food system by teaching people how to grow their own food. How do you ensure that a user can successfully grow sprouts so they can develop their gardening confidence?
We developed a simple level 1 kit which contained broccoli seeds, a dish, and a paper towl to serve as soil. It also came with step by step instructions as well as information to help educate our users about the food system.

Here one of our users follows the instructions, watering her seeds for the first time. The paper-towel keeps the seeds perfectly moist and only needs to be watered once a day with a tablespoon of water.

Working with plants is an interesting design challenge because it takes time to grow them. We wanted to ensure that the first kit was fail proof and delivered results quickly. After just a day or two, you would see your seeds start to open.

After 10-15 days the broccoli sprouts are ready to harvest and eat. It was important that our users could find success in a relatively short amount of time. This encourages them to keep growing food and try the next level of kits.
